THE NEW SEASON BEGINS

It was a day of returns and reunions at Cobham on Monday as our 2013/14 campaign kicked into action with the commencement of pre-season training.
Jose Mourinho spoke collectively with his players for the first time since rejoining the club last month, before putting them through their paces in the late afternoon heat.

Before the action there were medical tests for the players, who despite the hard work ahead all looked pleased to be back at work.
New boys Andre Schurrle, Marco van Ginkel and Wallace were all present, the latter speaking with Brazilian compatriotsRamires and Lucas Piazon, while David Luiz, Oscar and the other Confederations Cup players were still on holiday.
The first training session began at 5pm, some stretching followed by short, sharp fitness drills which in turn were punctuated by small-sided games.
Mourinho oversaw each of the drills before taking charge of the next exercise, an attack v defence scenario, the emphasis on moving the ball quickly and creating space.

The session lasted just over 90 minutes, with double training split between morning and late afternoon now to come until the squad departs for our Here to Play, Here to Stay Asia tour on Thursday.
